G.C. Kinsey is a 28-year-old woman with the sense of humor of a 15-year-old boy. She is also a really awkward person. As a teenager, she hated this, but was lucky enough to go to a high school where she met lots of similarly awk-minded friends. Then, as an adult, she magically realized that awkward = fun. So much fun that now she makes a comic about it.

You’re Doing it Wrong was conceived in 2003. It was called The Last Lie back then, and it was going to be a novel because teenage G.C. thought she wanted to write books. G.C. loved writing the dialogue but hated writing everything else, so she only got through about 20 pages before giving up. The characters stayed alive, though, and in 2010 G.C. decided to try drawing them.

G.C. is not (and does not pretend to be) a formally trained artist. She learned to draw from her mom, who teaches art and is hopefully not too horrified by this comic. She learned to draw cartoons and comics by emulating what she saw on Batman the Animated Series and various Nicktoons. She learned to make digital art by poking Illustrator and Photoshop repeatedly with a stick.

When she’s not spawning comic-babies with her Macbook Pro/”husband,” Mr. Jefferson, G.C. is most likely:

  • cosplaying at comic conventions,
  • writing songs to play at music festivals,
  • swimming in every pool and ocean she can find,
  • live tweeting RuPaul’s Drag Race, Project Runway, and Face Off, or
  • having cuddly funtimes with her pet hamster, Thor.
